What is a Dust Mask and Its Importance?
The importance of occupational safety is increasing in our country, and society has begun to be aware of this issue. So much so that occupational safety engineers have been added to the ranks of engineers. In line with the sanctions of the laws issued, many companies are now required to employ occupational safety engineers and to provide suitable products to their employees. Regardless of the sector, occupational safety equipment is necessary for the protection of employees. I will share a few details about dust masks, which are one of these pieces of equipment.
Should a Dust Mask be Suitable for the Working Area and the Job Being Done?
Not all masks are sufficient to protect you. Therefore, you need to know the suitability of the products sold under the name of dust masks for you. For example, dust masks are designated as FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3. This naming system determines the usable working environments. For example, FFP1 dust masks are masks that can be used against water, dust, and moisture. Many occupational safety companies selling dust masks these days prioritize human health by choosing higher quality products. Respiratory protection is not limited to dust masks alone. There are standards in respiratory protection. For example; EN 149 are filtering masks for protection against particles (FFP1-FFP2-FFP3), and EN 405 are half-face masks with filter valves for protection against gases or gas particles. Products with this EN certification are disposable respiratory protection products. Some of the things to know about respiratory protection are as follows.
* Standard filtered masks do not provide protection against various gases (CO, CO2, N2)
* If the breathing resistance in dust masks increases noticeably, they must be changed.
* During use intervals, the filter should be stored wrapped and its contact with oxygen should be cut off.
* Filters are packaged by the manufacturer. Storage conditions should be in environments with less than 75% humidity and between approximately -10 C and +15 C. Companies that add new products to their portfolio every day also pay special attention to the protection levels in dust masks. With the examples we have given, we have also informed those who use occupational safety materials, albeit to a small extent. For a more conscious and healthy society, be sure to use occupational safety materials.
