Taxi Plate Auctions
The state is the most authoritative body regarding public transportation vehicles, which is why many authorities, such as the number of taxis, their sufficiency, and vehicle inspections, are carried out by the state. One of these situations is commercial taxi plate auctions. These auctions are held to transfer “T” plates, which can be used in taxis for a certain fee. Although these transfer transactions are of great importance to individuals who can afford the sufficient fee, they have not been regulated in big cities for many years. This is because the number of taxis in these cities is considered sufficient. In Istanbul, where the last commercial taxi plate auction was held in 1989, the current number of taxis is 17,395. However, despite the auctions not being held as they used to be, renting a plate is seen as one of the most important methods for people who want to start the taxi profession from scratch in Istanbul. How Are Rental Fees Determined?
One of the most important factors for taxis is which city the taxi will serve. For this reason, the city is one of the most important factors when determining the rental fee for plates. Rents are higher, especially in metropolises with high population density and large surface area. However, the customer potential in these cities can also be very high. Rental fees are usually determined daily. In this way, the goal is to earn enough business throughout the day to cover the rental fee.
