What is Synthetic Turf Carpet?
Synthetic turf carpet is a flooring developed as an alternative to natural grass, produced with special monofilament and fibrillated yarns. It is manufactured by stitching yarns cut to a specific standard onto a special backing fabric. After the process, a latex coating applied to the back of the backing fabric ensures that the yarns are firmly attached to the carpet. The raw material for synthetic turf carpet, used since the second half of the 20th century, is petroleum-based. Over time, with the development of technology, it has become more functional and acquired a natural appearance. Its use has gradually increased worldwide, especially after FIFA approved the use of artificial synthetic turf in all official and international competitions in 2004. The first and foremost use of synthetic turf carpet is for sporting purposes. It is particularly used in football fields to eliminate the adverse conditions caused by natural grass. Besides football fields, its main sporting uses include stadiums, golf courses, rugby fields, tennis courts, and multi-purpose fields.
